Where to go paddling
For Surf Ski paddling, Port Elizabeth has one of the safest coastlines available. Algoa Bay always has Surf Ski activity as paddlers launch from Hobie Beach, Summerstrand or Kings Beach. For a more challenging experience, great paddling is found off Sardinia Bay and Bluewater Bay. We also have the Discover Men's Health Surf Ski Series (see further down) which is great fun and suitable for all levels of paddling.
Please ensure that you check the weather conditions before venturing into the sea and take extreme care when the PE westerly wind blows - it's a killer.

Canoeing is undertaken at North End lake, Swartkops river, Gamtoos river and/or Sundays River. For white water paddling, head towards Cradock and tackle the Fish River.
Regular K1 and K2 Time Trials are held on a Tuesday evening on the Swartkops River and from January, Dare2Paddle in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Canoe Union will be hosting the Summer Series TT on North End lake. The Summer Series TT will consist of a guppies (kids under 14) time trial, a schools time trial and a senior time trial.

In April 2006, Dare2Paddle will be involved in the organisation of one of the most awesome river races in South Africa, the Duro Big Fish K2 race - 56km in 50 cumecs of water (entry forms available from our offices).

Canoe Polo is played at The Boardwalk and/or Newton Park swimming pool. If you haven't yet given this fantastic paddling sport a try yet, give us a shout then come down and join us for an awesome time.
Proficiency Testing
We recommend that all paddlers obtain their proficiency test before hitting the water on their own. In order to participate in any CSA approved event you are required to hold a CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY. Our SurfSki Proficiency course and our canoeing introduction courses culminate with the Proficiency test. The Surf Ski Certificate of Proficiency is required by all surf ski paddlers.

Exemptions:
Lifesavers with an SPA
Surf Ski Paddlers who have participated in 3 races of the Discovery Men’s Health Surf Ski Series (see below).
Surf Ski Paddlers who have participated in any of the major Marathon Surf Ski Races

Contact us now to arrange for your testing. In keeping with national standards, a testing fee of R50 will be charged.

The Port Elizabeth leg of the Discover Men's Health Surf Ski Series started on Sunday 9th October 2005. The series consists of short course (7km) and long course (12 - 35km) races and is a wonderful opportunity to paddlers of all abilities to get out there and enjoy racing. Durban has certainly lead the way in the series so far with well over 400 paddlers taking part in the races.
Please remember that all paddlers taking part in CSA sanctioned events will need to be registered CSA paddlers. For those paddlers who are already registered through their canoeing clubs, they will continue to make use of their CSA race number. Those paddlers who are not registered will need to join CSA and obtain a race number (contact us for more information or the necessary forms).
